Monopod/tripod maybe useful for light all-in-one recorders
« on: October 27, 2008, 01:36:02 PM »
Here's an interesting monopod that turns into a tripod of sorts. It doesn't go very high, 62.5 inches, but it might be a handy thing for those spur of the moment events. You might be able to put it on a table top for extra height. You might could use it for a light all-in-one recorder like a R-09 or maybe rig it to hold some mini-mics. The magnetic ball head might be a concern though. Of course it could also be used for what it was intended to be used for, cameras. I've used a cheap monopod from Walmart before but this one has legs so it could stand on its own. No way it would replace a decent stand but it is very portable and would probably pass security as a cane or walking stick.

Yeah, the clamp looked interesting as well. I had thoughts that it may expand the possibilities quite well.  I've been looking for a walking stick/monopod/tripod combo thing for a while. Its not a solution for all applications but it fills a niche.

I've got one similar to that, I think its bogen, and I like it. Its a little on the heavy side but at least you know its stable. The tripod is a very nice but I wouldn't walk very far away if you have an expensive camera on it just because it COULD fall.
Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.

I'd imagine its a little tippy. A little inventiveness would probably fix that, bungees, tent stakes, tape, whatever.

I wouldn't use this if I wanted to be sure to get the best recording but for one of those outdoor events where you have to sit on a blanket with the sweetie but still want to grab something it would be cool. Or one of those indoor sit-down shows in an auditorium where you can't have a stand over head height.
