JB3 1 Battery Recording Hints
« on: September 18, 2005, 08:15:59 PM »
I am using a JB3 and only have 1 battery. Can anyone give me ideas on how I can get the most from just one battery? I have a concert coming up this week and need advice. Or, how to conserve juice while recording?

Thanks

Turn the following off:

Headphone Feed (volume)
Infared Remote Sensor
Backlight (or keep it really short, like 5 secs or so)
Keep the Stereo output on 2 channel instead of 4
The entire EAX function (that should be off anyways  :P)

That's the best you can do.  Just remember to keep to batteries charging until you walk out the door.  You should be good for about 3 hours of recording if everything goes well. YMMV

Good Luck!

I did a test recording and the unit shut off at around 2hr at 44.1 wav. Kinda short and didn't save my recording either. Anything I can do?

It *should* have saved your recording gracefully before shutting down.  If you are running on external power, it won't save anything when your power is cut.

2 hours does seem short, usually I can count on at least 2.5 hours per battery.  Unless your battery is older you should be getting the same runtimes.  Of course, everyone's case is different.

Poke around in the archive and also the rest of the Remote Power threads and you'll find some thrifty ways of providing cheap reliable power to your JB3.

Good Luck to you...

If you could afford it, I'd reccoment the SIMA power adapter (SUP-1 or 2 I think) and either a RC or portable DVD battery. That should eliminate any concerns about power. All combined it would be less than or equal to the cost of another JB3 battery. 8)

The powerrunner from batteryspace has given me ~15hrs of run time, with 2 lights still on. Another option for you.

Yeah I use this method too and it will power the JB3 forever!

the stereo outputs can be configured in the "Settings" menu.  Turn in on to 2 channel instead of 4.  It probably won't help the battery *too* much, but it's worth turning off.

Hope that helps.

I had my JB3 shut down last night while taping my bands practice session. I plugged into the wall wart and booted up...it didn't save the recording, or so I thought. I unplugged from the wall wart, took out the JB3 battery, put it right back in, and there was the recording! I think the JB3s are developing a mind of thier own. I also had this happen after recording a show, but as soon as the battery is taken out and put back in the recording shows up. ???

I've had recordings not save with 2 batts.  Basically, don't count on the jb3's auto save before batt runs out.  If you're getting close, hit the FF button (somewhere where you won't mind losing a sample or two) and save what you can.
