Wavelab buffer settings?

when about to record with wavelab. Under preferences > audio card

You can set the buffer #, & buffer size.

What should i set this to?

By defult it's set at

Buffer # 6
Buffer size 16384

A good rule of thumb is if it ain't broke don't fix it.  Now, if doing some heavy duty multi track work, double it.  Likewise if you are getting dropout's etc.

yeah, i had to increase mine for playback to 12 bc of hiccups, but left it at defaults for recording.

mine is max3d, but seems to do all fine 8)

I had to max my recording buffers out in order to avoid the dreaded dropouts.

You guys that are maxing...is it because you have a slower computer, or because you have tyoo many services running?  I have a 1.3 amb, 256 blah blah and have never had a problem. Then again, I have a sek'd prodif plus which damn well better work!

I run a Celeron 400 w/196MB RAM. at the time I maxed the buffers I only had 128MB.
My lappie runs a custom Win2k build with all non-essential services turned off... Think I followed Black Widow's ??? tweak guide for that.

Yeah, definately don't change it if your hardware is fast enough.... Mine apparently just isn't.

Mirth did you up the buffer size & the level?

i did.....i could be wrong on this, but i think once i changed my buffer size and all that, i reinstalled my drivers and such.... 8)and i havent had a real big issue since, and those problems in yer show can be taken out  prolly using wavelab... 8)

I just upped the number of buffers.... It really can't hurt to do either or both. More buffers just mean that you're increasing the latency, and who cares about latency since none of us are processing and/or monitoring the sound in the field thru our recording devices.
AFAIK, monitoring thru a Pre/ADC is not subject to this... after all, you've got your headphones plugged in ahead of the lappie.

everything went well. set the buffer to 16 & moved the buffer size up 1 click.
