Sorry, I've used the search option but haven't found a solid and safe recommendation. I've heard that you need to use a variable power source, so as to not fry the unit.
Anyone with a strong and safe recommendation that doesn't cost as much as the unit?
Thanks!

Bump. .....anyone?

The generally accepted rule (not universally though, I don't believe) is the auto voltage selecting Tekkeon batteries wouldn't always recognize the proper voltage for the 680 and could fry the unit. You just need a battery that reliably puts out what it advertises. I believe the Tekkeons mistakenly supplying over 12v was what was causing issues for a few people.
I've had fine results with the knock off Naztech battery that was popular for a second (sorry can't find a link), as well as the old Tekkeon 3300 that saw a huge collection sold cheap on ebay a little while ago. I've also used 9v DVD batteries with no issue.
A battery that supplies a reliable 12 or 9v output should do fine.

I just used the Naztech external all weekend at LOCKn that Tonedeaf hipped me to and it worked like a champ. No issues and it comes with a tip that fit perfectly. Ran it a 9V.

I use Tekkeon myPower ALL plus (Model No. MP3450 R3), problem free for a couple years now.

Any part# or place to purchase the recommended batteries. Will my 12 volt lead acid batteries be fine. I can run a volt meter on them to make sure they are 12 volts.

This is the one I bought...

Hi guys
Am new here. Love my DR 680 but need good external power. One guy mentioned Wally World which I can't find anywhere.
So are best solutions external power like Naztech or does anyone use Nimh AA?
I remember using Roland recorder very similar to 680 that burned through AA like crazy.

The most reasonably priced solution is the Talentcell line of batteries. The section consensus for reliability would be the Naztech PB15000. I'm running a Maxoak K2 that is massive and heavy, but will run it for 3 1/2 days of festy fun.

Thanks for the recommendation fellows. I'm expecting one to arrive in a few days for use at Wanee next week.

I own two Tascam DR680 (which I paired with a Sound Devices 552, although these days I use a Zoom F4 instead, a better and lighter package!).
Personally I powered my DR680 recorders with this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Feelworld-FW4600BP-Rechargeable-Battery-Pack-12V-4600mAh-for-Camera-Monitor-/261460767164
Works fantastic! One of these can usually power my recorder for a whole day's shoot. And is very cheap, you can easily have a 2nd at hand as a back up just in case.
Plus I really like the lights on the side of it, which let you know how much charge is left in it.

This Maxoak 50,000mha 185wh ran my DR680 for three plus days of Lockn' last year...with no phantom power on all line inputs.

It ran my Aeta 4MinX Two days with four phantom powered pre's engages

Be aware that if you are flying, the airline have a general 100Wh limit on lithium batteries. A typical 20,000 mAh 5v battery is at the limit. There is a limited ability to carry on larger batteries.
