Topic: How do I run my ua5 with my Jb3??

I love this place!!!

someone did tell me in my other thred that I could mod it myself,Im electroncs repair savy.
solder sucker,iron and forceps ready...

yeah it really is easy, i just finished digimodding my ua5 a couple days ago and i have NEVER picked up a soldering iron before. you just have to cut one trace (really easy) and then jump two circuits (requires soldering). and my hands probably shake more than anybody i know haha. good luck ,there are several sites that will tell you what to do. check the archives

and haha not to burst your bubble ( i just read the ebay thread you have about the ua5) but i got mine for 130 shipped on ebay last week! lol thing sounds great

my butane small tip iron is ajustable also

and why cant you clip both sides of the resistor and call it done?

For cables you will just need standard mic cables ... XLR-F to XLR-M. They connect to the Neutrik combo connectors on the front panel of the UA-5. Many people use custom job cables around these parts, but on the cheap you can pick up a pair at any music shop in your town most likely.

and instead of the hosa, run optical out > jb3 (after you digimod of course). i think you'll have to buy an adapter at radioshack that converts the normal optical cable to a 1/8" optical. shouldnt be too expensive

If you haven't already, you may want to check out the UA5 FAQ in the TS Knowledgebase | Archive | Pres & ADCs forum.  It includes a link to DIY digi-mod instructions that also talks briefly about removing the R8 resistor instead of cutting the traces.

Instead of dealing with optical adapters, I'd recommend the right angle toslink to right angle mini optical cable that you can find at sound professionals or MCM. I just got one in the mail, and it's much nicer to work with.

SMT, mayhaps you can grind it with a dremel, but I don't reccommend it

Is there any other part to this?  Been a while, check the documentation online, I'm an old man with a fuzzy memory.
I think a jumper and a resistor, now that you mention it.
And there was a switchable mod as well.
Some site in Finland, if I remember it right.
Also someone in Canada.

I'm guessing that a butane iron wouldn't have a great a need for grounding as an electric model, but is prudent.
Buzz on over to the Archive board on TS.com and see if the mod was ever posted...
And def check with Nick's, just in case.
I'm not sure why he took it down... maybe safety? Perhaps it was flawed?
