« on: December 03, 2003, 09:25:12 PM »
what t=bar should i use with these mics ?  my SD bar is not alllowing enough room for XY...

would love to know what moke et al think are the best patters / configs for these things.   this would be a good first post on the new ADK recording tips section, but i can't log on right now for some reason.

XY seems to be everyone's all around favorite... vert seems to be the way to go, less obtrusive

This view looks odd because I have the mics extended out from the vertical stand, and angled up via adaptor to try to be more on-axis to the pa.

Which adaptor?

I've been expirementing w/ x-y setups for the TL's.  I think I'm gonna try it this weekend.  I'm gonna run x-y but run the bodies horizontally rather than vertically like Moke.  And I'm gonna try out the MP-2 that just came today.

BTW, I like your 'tape the stand to a post' technique, Moke!  It's worked nice for me many times.  I'm thinking about trying some of those ratchet-straps to use instead of duct tape.  I just feel so bad when I take the tape off and the paint on the post comes with it.  ;)

looks like any 5/8" mic clip will do it (without the clip, just the part that can swivel up and down)  .... butcha gotta have a long tbar for that...thanks moke

I've never run my mics X/Y... DIN or some modification thereof with cards and hypers

I always mean to try X/Y but you need your own stand and I never carry a stand and even when I do there's no extra room.

Tim, why do you need your own stand to run LD's in x/y?
if you have a clamp then thats all you need.
havent run the TL's in a verticle based x/y, but have run them horizontal x/y on a clamp on a stand with other mics.

I'm still getting used to these mics, but so far the best sounding config Ive used is ortf on a shure vert-bar

can't run them horizontally with the mounts I have so I have to go vertically... that takes up too much room on one stand

Given limited time to run out looking for vert bars, i must make do w/ what i got for tonight's test run...

Q:  i usually see XY with the caps in the same vertical plain, but off an inch or so horizontally, since one mic is usually 'above' the other...

is it still XY if the mics are in the same horizontal plain, but are off an inch or so vertically ?  in other words, if my mics basically resemble an L shape, is that still XY ?

hope someone can follow that expalanation; if not i'll take pics tonight before the gig...thanks

a slight vertical space deviation is fine, no worries.

Hey Moke - is that T-bar you are using in the pics an Akg km235?
Tickets are dead to me.  Except the ones I have, don't have, and lost.  Not to mention the ones you have, don't have, and lost.   And the ones that other dude has, doesn't have, and lost.  Let me know if you need some tickets, I'm happy to oblige.

Thanks for your response - I am pretty much going to be joining team ADK here pretty quickly, and I want to order a t-bar in which I can do this vertical xy config... and I would like to order it so that it comes around the same time, so I can actually run them...

Can you give me a rough idea of how long the t-bar has to be in order to set them up like this?  The AKG one I mentioned apparently gives an 8" span between the mics, which, in my head, doesn't seem large enough...

Thanks again man.

Peace-
Pfife
