Vocal Mic > centered input to UA5 ??
« on: December 06, 2003, 04:16:36 AM »
Okay, I'm a newbie when it comes to this kind of thing.

I want to make a demo tape of my younger brother's band. But what I want to do is take his vocal mic and mix it in with a couple of MC012s in an AB configuration behind him. So I figured there must be some way to double the connection from the vocal mic, power it somehow (with my PS2?), then get it down to equal RCAs to go into the analog RCA inputs on the back of the UA5, and run the MC012s into the XLRs on the front, as in a normal UA5 mix.

Will converting the 1/4 connection from the vocal mic into an XLR to be powered by the PS2, then adapting that down to two RCAs work the way I hope it would?

Or will a PS2 not power a vocal mic?

Any suggestions? I just want to make sure the vocals come through tight. It's a high school band, I'm not expecting much in the way of guitar work at this point ... ;)

most vocal mics are dynamic and don't need phantom power, so you might be able to xnay the ps-2.

As far as splitting a mic to both RCA inputs, this is in the archive.

Crazy - adapting a dynamic mic to RCA for a line in connection will work witout any kind of battery in the setup? I'll have to try that.

you'll need to throw a line transformer in the mix to boost the signal from mic level to line level before going RCA in on the back.
