I need 'True NTSC VCR' Help!
« on: April 21, 2007, 11:17:13 AM »
Hi guys.

I live in London, UK and i want to transferee couple NTSC tapes to digital but i experienced that i need TRUE/PURE NTSC3.58 MHz VCR player.
i Know a lot of players say 'NTSC Playback' but all they do is convert NTSC signal to PAL so it becomes what they call (PAL-60 or NTSC4.43 Mhz).

So i'm looking for someone who would sell their VCR, i know you can buy those from various distributors but they are just too expensive!

So anyone could help me out?
Thanks

why not send the tape to a north american to transfer?

or alternately buy a cheap vcr on ebay - although shiping might negate the "cheap"

If you don`t want to buy a true NTSC VHS device get yourself a TV tuner card with the Philips SAA7134 chipset (e.g. Terratec Cinergy 400) - that's the only chipset beside some Booktree 8x8 cards that supports PAL-60. I got one from ebay for 10€ :)

You can then use Virtual VCR (http://virtualvcr.sourceforge.net/) to capture the PAL-60 signal as real NTSC video without any loss of quality (no NTSC > PAL / 60 > 50 Hz conversation!). The SAA7134 chipset supports composite and S-VHS input.

I got a mate in Staffordshire who is an expert at transferring video and he has the equipment for both NTSC and PAL.  If you have video that he finds interesting, he'd probably be willing to transfer it for you.  PM me if you're interested in corresponding with him.
