My new Samsung 1080p 56" DLP
« on: January 12, 2007, 11:14:12 AM »
Just ordered a Samsung 1080p 56" DLP off amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F2P2XI/103-9092499-5845460

DirecTivo HD is being installed on the 29th, plenty of time for the Super Bowl.

All I want to say is life is good. 8)

Monoprice is pretty awesome.  I have a set of their component cables - very good stuff.

I have the HL-S6188W and its the shiz.  I love it.  We went with a BDI stand to put it on.  Looks really nice.  I took pictures, but never posted them.  I will though.

When I moved to AZ, I only brought what could fit in my car...I was desperate for room so I sold my current surround sound setup to my roommates for dirt cheap.

The sad fact is, I can't really afford to get the receiver that I wanted or the speakers at the moment.  There's too much other stuff we need for the house at the moment.  But the house is prewired with speakers for surround, so I'll just use those at the moment.  And I went with the Marantz sr7001 in the meantime for the receiver.  I figured that should hold me over until they figure out all the hdmi 1.3 junk.

I got my hdmi cables for like $6 on ebay.  I figure data is data so the cable shouldn't matter too much.

HDMI will have to wait, I'm going to use VGA for the xbox 360 which is also what I use for my DVD player.

Ed, how much was your BDI stand?  The Samsung stand is $250 which is absurd, IMO.  I'm currently looking for an alternative.

As far as cables go, I do need a set of components so I will check out monoprice.  Thanks for the tips guys!  +Ts all around.

curious as to why?

don't some tvs limit how the set will display stuff from the vga input?  i think some sets will not scale the image to the set's native resolution, so you should look into this with your set.

I think the entry level bdi stand for a tv your size is around $450, which is the one i have.  bdi is expensive, but the stuff is well made and looks great.

back at ya in 12.

I have the same TV, but the 50" model.

The VGA input overscans pretty bad so I switched back to component since the Samsungs can do 1080p via component. Running component for my 360 and HDMI for the ps3...great TV for sure.

i have the 61"
and i have a prob too
3 times in 3 weeks the volume out stops working
stops working totally - no tv speakers, no surround speakers

called circuit city and they have no service techs in my area so i h ave to wait for them to get back to me
(the othet 2 times it was after hrs and by morning it was back on)

in the mean time she says unplug the tv and let it sit for a couple of mins and it might fix it
ok, ok
so i am behind the tv looking to see which cord is the tv cord and i hear the tv make a noise (without unplugging it)
i turn the tv back on and it works
still pissed though

What do you mean "overscans" - I've been using the VGA input for the past week and I think it looks great.

Overscanning - A characteristic of display monitors where a number of lines and horizontal pixels delivered to the monitor exceed the visible display space of the screen.

It happens a LOT on old analog TVs.

picked up the 50" version back in October.
LOVE IT!
I have been able to compare it to the 1080 LCD version and i have to say, DLP is the way to go :)

We finally got shutters on our windows so no more glare on the tv at 4:30 in the afternoon.  I agree though, the tv is great.  Can't wait to watch my first HD DVD on it.  That should be coming in about a month or so.
