Active Cables--Schoeps
« on: March 20, 2014, 05:11:04 PM »
Just curious what the deal is with active cables for Schoeps.  The Schoeps cables are stiff and sometimes difficult to roll up.  The cables for the NBox are soft and roll up easy.

Can any cable be an active cable for the Schoeps caps, bodies, and preamps?

What about the AKG caps that are out there now?

I'm just wondering.
A lot of people run a race to see who is the fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

There are a variety of cables that can be used with genuine Schoeps actives.

Best-tronics sells CA-0363 for .36/foot. It is an excellent choice, extremely flexible, well shielded, and a great deal.  They seem to be doing some site maint right now.

I definitely prefer Schoeps cable - it's extremely durable (kevlar reinforced) - but you can use other cable

I have used Gotham GAC-4/1 mini star quad for example

Not as durable but still nice

Note that there are 3 active mics schoeps made/makes:
 - CMMT 30 AF  - 2 conductor plus shield (uses a DC Coupled design to achieve this)
 - CMMT 30 F - 3 conductor plus shield versions (DC Decoupled design - first Active/FET extended mic system)
 - CMC series - 3 conductor plus shield versions (DC Decoupled design)

I have personally only used Schoeps active cables[I have 2x KCY 2505 Ig's] but after using them for some time, I cant see myself using anything else. They are extremely durable IMO and do exactly what theyre supposed to do! I dont roll mine up, I fold mine, so they easily fit in my LowePro bags, and it takes a few minutes max at the end of the night or the next day ;)
