Topic: So I'm a dumb ass & blew up my car adaptor...

I got the one from Walmart with teh adjustable settings, set everything up, ran it off of my 12 V 12ah and nothing...I took that portion out and ran it directly off of the 12V (12V >>>> hacked car adaptor and POOF...smoke and lights. Did I have the negative and positive backwards? Which line coming off of the hacked adaptor is hot? I took it a apart and resolered where the trace had blown and switched the neg and pos but it still blew up again. IDK, any help would be great.

You've got me stumped man....hacked off and connected to a 12 V battery should work fine.   You snipped off the entire car adapter piece and had just the converter piece(box), right?

On the cord that goes from the "box" to the plug into the JB3 there is a striped one and a black one but on the cord going from the "box" to what you are connecting to your battery both cords are black so I had to use a multi-meter to test which one was + and which one was -.   I don't know if feeding it backwards would kill it completely or not since I haven't given it a try(and probably don't ever anticipate trying to lol).

Sounds like the something had a short....in my experience the only way ya get smoke with DC is a short.

If ya have a multimeter check continuity before connecting to battery....put one test lead on the + cable and one on the - cable.......you should have NO continuity.

sounds like he had the "head" of the jb3 part on backwards, tip was either a + or - when it shoulve been the opposite!!

chris, isnt there writing on one of the cables going from the box to your battery device??? if so,please let a brotha know whatcha came up w/...
