pmd 660 and CF cards
« on: July 03, 2007, 03:10:01 PM »
well this is my first forray into CF cards and I am admittedly baffled.

does anyone have a recomendation of cards that work well with the PMD 660?

I found this on ebay:

Quote
Thin, lightweight, removable memory card for your digital camera, MP3 player or any other device that requires CompactFlash® (CF)
# 4GB
# Up to 10MB/second sequential read speed for ultra-fast image viewing and data transfer
# Up to 9MB/second sequential write speed lets you capture large image files faster

this is under $50.00 shipped and that seems way low compared to some of the other 4 gig cards.  Is this a decent card?  will it work?  is there better?

Lexar and SanDisc are good companies.  I have used those with the 660

One vote for Kingston 45X 1, 2 & 4 GB cards.

No problem with 2 different SanDisk cards.  I did have a problem with a 2GB Kingston card.

Someone had mentioned they had used an 8GB card somewhere on this board. Wonder if it actually works.

8GB would be about 13 hrs of 16/44. I heard that a card will freeze if it runs continuously for 2GB or longer and I think that happened to me one time back in Feb but I was too drunk to be for sure.

ScanDisc 2 and 4GBs here.

edit to add> There is a thread(s) somewhere that covers everything you'd ever want to know about a 660 and then some...

sometimes they get deep inside a jam and there is no such thing as up or down, just a momentary endless floating in perfect space

I have a 4GB Sandisk II that has worked really well for me. Just have to make sure you reformat your CF card before each use. Learned that lesson the hard way.
