Hi there

I have a Sony PCM-M10 and an SP-BMC2 mics. However I do not own a battery box or preamp.

I live in UK. Can anyone suggest a good battery box or preamp? I'm going to some concerts towards the beginning of March and so it really needs to be something I can buy in the UK.

Thanks

Are there any Battery boxes for sale in the UK or is it just something sold in North America and imported by people living in the UK? I did a search online but can't find much info relating to the UK.

Thanks for your reply. That's the impression I've been getting. I should have sorted this out last year but I was putting it off and dealing with other things instead.

Anything I order from aboard has the extra shipping costs and then import duty and VAT etc. etc. So I was kind of hoping to avoid all of that in the short term and just get something good from over here as a stop gap and deal with all of that at a later date.

I did actually attempt to contact Church Audio in January. However I have just realised that I accidentally e-mailed myself instead, which is not something I usually do. This explains the lack of any reply. :-D.

I think there could be a market for someone to start up an internet shop over here selling such gear. They could also sell to Europe as well. I'm not into sales type of work myself, so I wouldn't be the one to start up such a company.

That seems ok but they are out of stock building something new. As ever I need the device by 4th March. I will probably order something from Sounds professionals and pay for the fast shipping costs.

The main reason for needing the device is that currently I use a headphone volume lead, of which I have 2. This works as an attenuator I believe when plugged into the microphone socket. However whilst they were fine with my sony minidisc RH-N900, when I plug either of them into my Sony PCM-M10, it can cause the left channel to cut out if I knock the wire or don't have it plugged in quite right. Other times it can cause fuzzy noise and static if knocked. Both wires have the same issue but the microphone plugged in directly does not. So it is clearly the wires. Perhaps the way they are constructed in relation to the microphone socket they plug into is the cause. They were not expensive wires I bought.

I would contact them, maybe they have old stock or one of the new ones ready to field test. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I've got the older version of that pre (the BMA1). Sounds really good. Battery life isn't great, but the sound is really nice - use mine with Church Audio CA11s. If you can get your hands on one it should give good results and ought to keep it's value, especially within the taper community.

Bought mine after a desperate internet search, ended up finding a wildlife recording chap in Norwich so had to get a coach from London, then just got back in time for my first gig with the pre. Turned out nice!
