Canare starquad speaker cables?
« on: May 03, 2004, 05:35:58 PM »
Ok, as I mentioned in the other thread, I've been thinking about doing some upgrading to my interconnects and speaker wire.

I've got kimber 4vs speaker cable for my main playback system, but want to upgrade the monster crap I'm using on my home office system.  I don't think I want to drop the coin for the kimber kable on this playback system, so I've been thinking about going the DIY route using Canare starquad speaker cable.  This is not the same Canare starquad I've used for mic cables and interconnects.  It is the Canare 4S11 starquad speaker cable.

Anyone heard or have an opinion on this Canare 4S11 starquad speaker cable?
Mics: Microtech Gefell m20/m21 (nbob/pfa actives), Line Audio CM3, Church CA-11 cards
Preamp:  none <sniff>
Recorders:  Sound Devices MixPre-6, Sony PCM-M10, Zoom H4nPro

I use it for my home office and really like it.  It probably is not nearly as defined as some of the higher end is, but I noticed that the bass became much more defined and the high end was smoother, not as brittle, as using some stock speaker cable I had before.  And at the price point it is at, it is a great deal imo

you might want to also consider trying some cat5 speaker cables, i noticed an immediate improvement when i replaced my cheap cables with them.  the overall sound became much smoother and more natural sounding and the bass became much clearer and precise.  if you'd like i can try to find the address for the recipe i tried.

This is the recipe I used, but they take forever to braid.

i just finished a pair of the ven haus cables and they sound amazingly good if you have the patience to do all the braiding i'd highly recommend them.  they have a much more detailed sound than the recipe i initially tried which were very nice but aren't in the same league as these.
