Battery power mods for a M-Audio DMP3?
« on: August 01, 2011, 10:09:09 AM »
Hello all,

I'm new here and building a backpack recording setup on a shoestring budget. My final hurdle is figuring out how to battery power an M-Audio DMP3. I'm very skillful with a soldering iron. Any advice for doing this?

That takes 9V AC, so not so easy to power in the field.  Best bet is to get a 12v battery (which is DC) and use it to provide power to a power inverter.  The cheaper power inverters create a stepped interpretation of an AC sine wave, which might add some nasty noise to the recording, though this probably depends on the design of the DMP3.

Better bet would be to get a true sine wave inverter for your power inverter.  Coupled with a 12v battery, that would actually give you better AC power quality than a wall outlet.  But true sine wave inverters are pretty expensive.
Mics: Microtech Gefell m20/m21 (nbob/pfa actives), Line Audio CM3, Church CA-11 cards
Preamp:  none <sniff>
Recorders:  Sound Devices MixPre-6, Sony PCM-M10, Zoom H4nPro

Sell the DMP3 and buy a Little box....It will sound better, be battery operated...

There is no better price performance ratio than a little box+ a ( insert recorder) (sony PMC-10 or R09HR...)
