Just hit this while looking around for EQ advice to reduce cymbals and thought I'd share it here :

Great guide, just remember that it is only that, a guide.  Very dangerous to generalize with frequencies and instruments because it totally depends on the actual instrument, tone, player, and room.  Definitely a good starter for figuring out where things sit though
