Maximum length of cables
« on: October 10, 2006, 09:24:30 PM »
Setting up a notebook based rig for a one-time gig.
Is there a maximum length of mic cable I can/should use?  (ADK A51s>M-audio 410 Firewire)
and/or should I keep the mic cable as short as possible and run the firewire cable to what ever length I need (or vice-versa?)
Should be more than 50 feet total distance from notebook to mics
SP C4s > Kind Kables > Marantz 660 OADE Concert Mod
Matched ADK TLs > Mackie 1202-VLZ > Alesis ML9600

I ran mic cables from a stand on stage to a soundboard tent about 120ft away - maybe 150 feet of cable in all.   No problems at all.

Always keep the firewire short and the balanced XLR long. Thats the whole point of runing a balanced mic line, but remember use good cables and try to make them all the same type / brand when you run a long run and you should be fine. With balanced audio you can run over 500 feet with out a problem, past that and you should think about running line level balanced, with a line driver preamp on the mic end.
So your fine.
