"Stereo Configs" when your t-bar is vertical..?
« on: September 26, 2003, 01:40:19 PM »
I'm taping a friend band tonight at the Docksiders in Erie, PA.. if any of yinz have been there before ya'll know there is a balcony that runs the right hand side of the bar all the way up to the front door..

I was thinking of running from upstairs but I'd need to somehow mount my stand (gaffers tape) to the side of the balcony and then run it out over the crowd to get semi-DFC FOB (although prolly still a little to the right).

I don't have a way to swivel the t-bar back to a vertical position so imagine an AKG T-Bar held like this "|" instead of this "---"  I'll be using two AT8410a's...  I was thinking of mounting one from the top and one from the botton and then using the AT's ability to swivel out some to try and run DIN like this (terrible ascii rendition):

          microphone >  \|                                  |
                                   |/  < microphone         |
                                   \_________________|_____
                                             stand                |
                                                                      |    balcony runs along
                                                                      |    side of bar towards

Actually the more I think about this I should be able to just swivel the mounts, maybe this is easier then I thought ;D  just need someone to tell me so to make me feel better!

Nick, Once I get home, I think I have some pics on my home PC showing the AKGs mounted on a Shure vert bar using the AT8410s.  I'll post em' within the hour....

Just to "solve this thread".. I gave it a shot but found the results to be *terrible*...

I figured out a way to get the config I wanted with the bar being on it's side by just swiveling the AT8401s but from the balcony I was too high (much like that guy running the "Acuras" at about 18' in the thread in the open forum).

I was probably level with the top of the stacks but they were angled down towards the crowd at about a 60 degree angle so I was "above" the source essentially.. Got mainly drums and a very distant recording of everything going through the PA..

Just for future reference if anyone tries something similar ;D  Keep in mind where your at in relation to the stacks and where they're pointed!

Was worth a shot just to try something different.

i use the same combo here, and have found that all you have to do is fool around with the configs and you'll find what you like, it took a couple of tries and some help from daryan and its all figured out
