advice needed on portable/semi portable playback
« on: April 26, 2011, 10:08:34 AM »
it seems ridiculous as i have 3 computers in the house, a semi bricked gigabeat, pcm m10, and samsung galaxy s, and still looking for a playback device.

i also have an echo IOx but no computer now with expresscard.

one of the options is to pick up another cheapo laptop w/ expresscard slot so i can use the IOx, but that seems even more wasteful as it will eventually be tossed.

i have decent powered desktop speakers as well so i don't need an amp, just a good player with a good dac to feed the speakers. ideally i'd like one small box that i can just attach a usb drive to and have it feed my speakers. i looked into the squeezebox, but read that the da section is just ok on it. there is talk about usb otg for the samsung but it's not out there yet.

the gigabeat sounds quite good to my ears, but it's 40 gigs and the screen is on the fritz, not sure if i want to put any money into it.

is there something in the semi-portable category that will fit the bill?
