7 pin S-video SPDIF out?
« on: December 15, 2007, 06:41:57 PM »
On my lappy it claims i have a spdif out if i get some sort of adapter for the 7pin s-video jack.  Does anyone use this as a way to get digital out from a lappy with something like winamp or wavelab (rather than a video stream)?

Still trying to get a SPDIF out of my Vostro 1500.  Does anybody have any luck using these composite cables to get SPDIF out from an audio program like Wavelab or the likes?

Call up dell, give them the tag number of your comp and let them know what cable you're looking for.  A quick search on the google shows that the breakout cable was an option, but you should be able to get it from dell (the tag number will let them reference your specific lappy h/w config).

Solution to the problem on Dell's 7pin S-video...specifically to the Vostro series.  The SPDIF out is screwed up and the ground is connected to a -3.3V rail.  I used a Dell 044CTV dongle and modded spdif ground to the video out ground with a small piece of wire.  The work around is here (now I have digital 24bit output from the laptop):
