Title: Quality 1/4" > 1/8" headphone adapter?
Post by: voltronic on September 06, 2015, 10:22:15 AM
With the generic adapters I've been using, the contacts inside the 1/8" jack loosen up easily, causing intermittent contact.  Does anyone have a better quality one they would recommend?  I found these three that look promising:

I have 1/4" to 1/8" that has not let me down and it shouldn't for the price. $50

They lock as well once engaged and have a release button.

Curiosity got me and I made the plunge, but I have never needed to replace this connector and has worked perfect for the past 3 years I have owned it.

^ I don't see an adapter anywhere on there; just custom cables.  $50 is crazy!  That's like those WBT RCA plugs you see on expensive audiophile cables.

I bought two of the Sony's linked above, should be here in a couple days.

I would have thought someone like Neutrik, Switchcraft, or Canare would make quality versions of these adapters, but I couldn't find any.  It must not be worth it to them.

They are custom.  I was always losing my adapters, so I made the plunge as I noted and got one.  Pricey...YES, but they lock and I have not lost or needed another since....so that's a plus!

Checking in to say that the Sony PC-234S linked above is by far the best adapter I have ever used of this type.  They are much better made than the cheap ones.  The contact is solid and sound is very consistent.  I had thought there was something wrong with the headphone jack of my FP24, but now realized that the 1/4" adapter was the problem as it sounds perfect now.  I'm throwing my other adapters in the trash!

Nice that it is so compact as a single-piece adapter, which keeps the plug from extending out much farther from the jack than it would otherwise.  That makes for a better fit in the gearbag and also reduces cantilever stresses on the jack.

Yes that was one of the points mentioned in the reviews that helped me make the decision.  The contact quality is the biggest thing for me though.  It's equivalent to the first time I changed from cheap audio connectors to Neutrik - the jump in quality is that large.
