Cool new battery charger tech
« on: April 30, 2011, 10:25:27 AM »
I have been investigating the construction of low cost, high voltage, high output battery packs.  I am not interested in the noisy packs that use regulators to boost the juice, just straight batteries.  Making your own lithium power packs is serious business, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

There is some good news in the way of new, high tech chargers from china.  These sell for $30-$35 on ebay and claim to charge every battery type.  They are very, very smart.  I think there are a lot of over-priced chargers on the market, so these are welcome.

I still need to dig into reviews on these before buying, but thought I'd post a link in case anyone is looking for charger options.  There are a lot of folks building high output packs for r/c aircraft, and I think that is what drives a lot of the hobby side of this.  If you're looking for more info, check out those forums.

Okay, so they're new to me ;)

Actually, it's good that they've been out for a while.  It suggests the software in them has been better debugged... These batteries make me nervous, so that's good.

AWESOME LINK +T ;D I have been searching for a "smart" charger for my 7.2v/4500mah NIMH RC Batteries that power my 722 ;) I have been using those blue "chun smart chargers" that come w/ them, but I'm getting an inconsistent charge on them w/ those chargers. I would bet I could get more consistent runtimes w/ one of these. And I didnt want to spend $100.00 on a "smart" charger. So thank you for saving me about $60.00 ;D 8)

Glad I wasn't the only one who hadn't heard of them :P

I'm definitely curious about building some honkin' power packs.  Not for festivals, but for power hungry preamps, etc.

Weird that it doesn't include a wart.. But that is a powerful wart - 5 amps, so that is unusual. You may not find it at the shack.

I'd do some searches for reviews in r/c airplane forums before ordering, to figure out which model and import dealer is best.

I think these B6 chargers use 12v dc

Do a search for B6 charger on eBay and you should be able to find them being sold by US sellers w/ AC adapters for a little more.

Here's one:
