500 series compatable preamps?
« on: January 31, 2012, 10:25:11 AM »
So I have been thinking about the thing where twoodruff was looking at picking up that 500 console model of the neve 5012 and we found out that it might be possible to use them in the field with some creativity. Has anyone else tried to use other 500series preamps? Any notes for those who might try? That would expand the options to stuff from Millenna, Great River, etc.

I'm not going to buy one, but the thought has crossed my mind if it's possible.

edit: thought of another question; what sort of voltage tolerances are there? I guess that varys by preamp, and I'm assuming they are tighter because they can expect the console to deliver X volts +/- 0.5 volt or something like that.

edit2: cleanup on aisle 5... posting in the AM isn't my forte. Brian; can you move this to the right section? Thanks.

"This is a common practice we have on the bus; debating facts that we could easily find through printed material. It's like, how far is it today? I think it's four hours, and someone else comes in at 11 hours, and well, then we'll... just... talk about it..." - Jeb Puryear
