Lithium ion vs. lithium polymer
« on: August 06, 2012, 07:58:29 PM »
Would this work for what we do (recorders, preamps), or is it just crap/wrong technology (lithium polymer)?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/18000mAh-Universal-External-Battery-for-laptops-Mobile-Phones-PDAs-iPods-/130691172867?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item1e6dcd0a03#ht_3274wt_1131

Pretty cheap.

Looks a lot like the Naztech PB15000

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007URKIGC/

I have the Naztech, and it runs a hd-p2 with phantom power on for 14 hours.

If the eBay item is comparable, it's a good deal.

For what it's worth, Jerry Chamkis uses lithium polymers for the internal rechargeable option on the Aerco.  He told me that they have a number of advantages (low self-discharge, lightweight, many charge cycles) but are quite particular about charging.  They can explode or burst into flames if overcharged and can be damaged by discharge past a certain point.  He emphasized that I should only use the charger that was designed to go with the batteries...
