Hey all!

Am going to two dave matthews band shows in the end of september and am wondering what basic equipment I can get away with for recording a show.. definetly not to trade (unless it turns out good!!) but just to see what all is involved!

Any suggestions?  Thanks!!!!!

Sony M1 or D8 DAT and a 7pin-to-spdif coax patch cable (save $ and buy used).  Patch for awhile, ask the tapers questions about the mics, preamps, etc that they're running.  Get a feel for the sound you like (most influenced by the microphones) then start shopping for some used mics, preamp, a/d converter.

http://www.taperssection.com/yabbse/index.php?board=14;action=display;threadid=4237 . Do you have a pricerange in mind...

Dang, Alex, beat me to it!  And I'm gonna agree with Craig on this one - patching is a good way to get a feel for what gear is out there, what you like, etc.  Most tapers are friendly folk and willing to help out.

and if you are talking about any of the DMB shows from Va Beach through Atlanta, there will be plenty of tapers there...
