Mics on glasses
« on: November 27, 2018, 06:45:33 AM »
Hi,

Right, this might sound odd, but going to ask anyway.

I have used a croakie mounted pair of AT853s for the past 10 years or so but recently the croakies have started to come apart and instead of getting them re done, I was thinking of mounting them on my glasses with black tape. Is this a good idea?

It would also give me a bit more scope for larger gigs as I have a pair of hyper cardoid elements that I haven't used for years.

Cheers

Sure, I have done that. Buy a roll of narrow width gaff tape to tape them up.

Or beg a strip of wide gaff tape off someone else's roll, and tear it into narrow strips. Gaffer's Tape tears neatly, because it's made of denim fabric with adhesive backing.

Look out for tape goo in your hair. Even gaff ain't perfect.

Or gaff them to the inside of a baseball cap, and not get busted. Really it doesn’t appreciably  affect the sound.

Exactly. I don't stealth much but I once made a bailing wire band that went around the inner rim of a fine loose mesh ball cap with mounts, gaffed the 853 bodies so they wouldn't wiggle in the rolled wire mic mount. Then realized, why don't I just loop the wire along the back strap and gaff to the inside of the hat? I never had mic rustling issues and I've never ran over the ears or on glass arms again. It is a little more comfortable also. A jacket or shirt with a convenient up collar helps, a few centimeters of wire between hat band and collar.

Bit worried about the DH obsession Moke, scary!!!

Used a baseball cap in the past MakersMarc and was only the second time I got busted many years back. Will look into that again though.

You guys don't have an issue with movement when head mounting or do you just stare straight ahead for the whole show?

The singular positive of having a five level cervical fusion. Not a problem.😔👍

I’ve actually worked with Mr. Hasselhoff. Unlikely that will ever happen again but I get a laugh when you guys post his picture.

Speaking of pictures I want to thank everybody who has shared your creative microphone disguises. It’s amazing how many of you are willing to share. If you have an interesting way of concealing microphones I’d love to add your pics to my collection on Facebook. TIA!!!
