opinions: TechFlex FlexoPet vs FlexoCleanCut
« on: October 14, 2008, 08:39:13 PM »
Hey
so I have my Markertek catalog out

and I am seeing both the TechFlex

FlexoPet
and the
FlexoCleanCut = which is non fraying when cut with scissors
vs
the FlexoPet
which should be cut  with a hot knife

any one have opinions (I am sure some of you do!) either way as to which would be easier to use?

or  a better buy

both are about the same $

just wanted to make a few cables for my self, and woul.d appreciate any knowledge or advice

thanx in advance

Either.
All you have to do to get it not to fray is take a lighter to the end of it.

So If
I use 2 -  1/8" cables  housed in one techflex tube
would it be bettter to use
Pet 1-C  [nom ID 1/8" Min dia = 3/32" max dia = 1/4"]
or would
Pet 2 [nom ID = 1/4" min dia = 1/8" Max dia = 7/16"]

the pet2-C is $10 cheaper per 100 foot roll $17.95 vs $27.95

I'd like it to be snug

but I am thinking that if I use the pet1-c that it would be very difficult to feed 2 - 1/8" wires through on tube sleeve

any recommendations?

thanx

Hi Ian.
I would go with pet 1-c.
I take it you went with the clean cut?

I used a 1/4'' when building mine and while snug I think 1/8" would have been perfect.
I have the same OD for my cables.
They are 2 conductor 24 ga SPC teflon, with teflon cable jacket.
What I did when feeding the cables through the techflex was tape the ends together
and fed them through slow.
Before feeding them through mark one of the cables on each end to differentiate the channels.

Todd,
thanx
I have not gotten any yet
I am waiting to receive the 200' of
Mil Spec Sliver 2-wire 22awg braid shielded with a  teflon outer sleeve

the OD measures about 1/8"

the PET1 C
and the Pet 2-C are the FlexoPet
and not the clean cut
the

it's weird the clean cut 1/8" is cheaper that the flexoPet 1/8"
but
the flexoPet 1/4" is cheaper than the CleanCut 1/4" for the 100' rolls

so you think the
nominal ID of 1/8" = min Dia 1/32" and Max dia of 1/4" would be big enough for the 2 - 1/8"cables to fit comfortably?

Thanx

Yep.
It will be snug but that's the beauty.
I got the 1/4" and it's a little baggy.
Still nice though.

The 1/8" has a max 1/4" id + a little headroom.

I have some of both and the clean cut is very thick compared to the the flexo-pet, if cable thickness matters to you.

If you PM me a mailing address I can send you a little sample of both so you can see the difference.

cool thanx
so the thinner would also work for single cables and not just "pairs" of  cables  = Bonus! ;D

Using the 1/8 for cable pairs makes for a stiffer cable assembly. Using the 1/4 for pairs makes for a more flexible and easier to coil cable. But the 1/8th works just fine for 22 awg wire either way double or single.

ahhhhh ok
seems to make sense
now I need to figure out : do I want them  stiffer? or Do I want them more flexible?

I'll ponder that one a bit

so
I got the samples that

Lil' Kim Jong-II
sent
and its interesting
the FlexoPet is grey=shredding=thinner
and the FlexoCut is black=non-shredding=thicker

when I slide the pairs of the MilSpec Silver 2-C pairs (which is while teflon jacket) through both
the black and thicker flexoCleanCut is more opaque
it hides the white wires better than the
Flexopet hides even one wire
meaning the FlexoPet is more translucent - but it could that it is grey and not black

it does seem that the filaments on the Clean Cut are thicker, and have a tighter weave, which gives it the ability to hide the wire inside better.

It seem that I may be leaning toward the
FlexoCleanCut

Thanx
Lil' Kim Jong-II
if I could give you a +T
I would

anyone ever use the
Bentley Harris Expando PT and PT Plus Braided Sleeving

I found this at:

seems comperable to the CleanCut they also offer other types

wondering if it's as good as  TechFlex?
