Will this work from my Nj3???
« on: July 26, 2004, 02:31:00 PM »
http://www.imaging-resource.com/ACCS/DPS9000/DPS9000.HTM

I picked one and I figured I would give it a shot. If you read the review it says it comes with a cable to go from 7.2v to 5v. If it doesnt work I will just sell it

True 5 Volt Output

A nice touch with the DPS-9000 is that it comes with a little adapter for use with cameras calling for 5 volt power input. (The entire Fuji line of cameras, for instance.) The nice part about the DSP-9000's implementation of the 5v adapter is that it uses a true voltage regulator, rather than the voltage-dropping diode used by some other units. (I verified this with my own tests, across a range of 0 to about 1250 milliamps. The output voltage doesn't start to fall off until a power drain of around 1300 mA.) This means that the output voltage of the DPS-9000's 5v adapter will hold constant as the pack discharges. - This could translate into longer run times for 5v cameras, although I didn't test this.

No it doesnt say the capacity. Judging by the size I bet it can do the job

If all you want it for is to run the jb3, creative makes a car adapter for it that works sweet.

I've run mine off a 12v and 9.6v through it.

About $30 from buy.com at the time I got it.

This is a small lithon-ion battery like the ua5 one. Its far less crap to carry

Why not run a few controlled tests at home with it and let us know the results :)
I built a similar pack for my Sony digicam out of MAHA powerex batteries....but it requires 7.2v. It will run my digi cam fou HOURS.

What kind of run times are we going to get with this thing???? I really like the size/weight ratio. SLA's are just too much sometimes and defeat the purpose of having a small recorder.

Ups droped this off today. So far it seems to good to be true. The cable is made for a fuji digital camera which just happens to be the same size and polarity. I took out my internal batteries and pluged it in. The jb3 powered right up with no problems. The battery isnt charged all the way so I am giving it a charge and will test it some more. I am a little worried that it might put out to much juice when fulled charged but the review for the link above says that it supplies 5v constant

I was able to record 6+ with this thing. I did have a issue but I am not sure if it was caused by the battery pack. I tested it twice. The 1st time I recorded a 3 hour file with no problems. I started the nj3 up right away to record again it looked like if locked up after about 30 mins. I powered it down for about 1/2 hour started it up and record another 3 file with no problems. I figured would try to repeat the conditons that made it lock up last time. So I recharged the pack to full. I recorded a 3 hour file with no issue. I then restart with no down time. This time it didnt lock up but started to record real slow. This might have been what happen the 1st time and I didnt realize it. This time was able to save the file. I have shut down the nj3 and will try to record again. I think runing it for shut a long period of time might be the issue and not the battery.

Been thinking of going the car adapter route.  Obviously as a car adapter, it is expecting a 12v input.  But Jason, are you saying the car adapter works fine off a 9.6v RC battery?

I'm sure I posted this when we were talking about it on the terrapin board, but here it is again.

In tests, I got 18 hours of almost constant recording sla>creative's adapter. I started and stopped files and ran the headphones and backlight too. It also worked flawlessly for IT, GOTV, Berkfest and Moedown last summer.

The only time I had problems(or could cause a problem when testing) was when I switched from internals to external while the JB3 was running.

I'm not sure who has had what problem and if they were running the creative car adapter.

I might just be lucky, but I doubt it. (knocking on wood)

It did not last very long. I don't remember the run-time test results, but it did work on both a ratshack 9.6v and 8 aa rechargeables. Of course 8 regular aa's would give you 12v too. I made a little project box with a batt sled in it and a female adaptaplug lead as an emergency power supply for any of my gear. Definately worth the $8 in parts. ;D

hopefully it works this seems like a nice alternative.  I saw once on a nomad messageboard that people had been using these for trips and such for quite awhile.... just for listening though not recording.

I wonder if I could use it to recharge my internal batteries. I would be very useful if it could. How long does it take to recharge batteries??

not sure, i jsut use my d sled that i tried to make into a battery box for that.  I regulated the circuits right but if it spikes it locks, but it makes a good charger

The question is if I could charge the battery how long would it take?? Does it charge in real time 1 hour of charge =  1 hour of record time??? or is it faster?? I dont know becuase I just leave it pluged in when I am not using it

i believe that li-ion batts when plugged into a wall charge faster than they are used up, but im not sure of the ratio.
