alas alan blumlein in devloping his technique laid the basis for ambisonics, it was gerzon who developed ambisonics as an extension of blumlein's work (extending it from 2 to 3 dimensions). the DIY mic I posted is a true surround mic that encodes a 3 dimensional ambisonic signal in two a stero signal that can be later decoded (on a computer) to front/rear/side/up and down speakers. While I might have put the link in the wrong thread I stand by it being totally different from the altoids blumlein setup......so :P
