DIY: DIN bar for Milab VM44-links
« on: February 22, 2011, 12:16:59 AM »
Here we go:
I was at Lowes (again) and was looking at plumbing parts for stuff...
I found some CPVC 1/2" pipe 45° angles that looked like just the right size for the Milab VM 44 links to be "mounts" for a DIN Bar (or you could do a NOS bar too).
the 1/2" pipe was too small in diameter, and the 3/4" looked a bit bigger than the 1/2" schedule 40 PVC

here is the 45° angle part:

and here is my DIY thread:  DIN active Bar (90° @ 20cm)
(I made this for my own use, I will NOT be producing them for others)  However if someone would like to take the idea and better it or mass produce it that that's fine, hopefully Milab may make their won series of  pattern bars for ORTF, DIN, and NOS, unitl then, here is my fun!

finished:

Start:
Raw CPVC Pipe:

Raw cut parts:
close up of 45° angle Pre Cut parts:

center 1/2" pipe - pre-cut with 3/4" shrink tube package:
center with Shrink tubing in place:

center with shrunk tube:

parts all together now (unglued):

Glued with CPVC cement:
Glued and sanded:

texture spray paint:

painted bar:

bar with VM44-links
links with "paperclip" clips

bar n links at 20cm:

all set with windscreens:

bar n mics in shock mount:

Ready to Roll:

questions or comments welcome

pro looking indeed. nice going!
Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.

thanx and...
original milab - wire-clip mic mount:
(they clip into a rubber grommet on the end of the capsule)

from top-ish (in my DINa ORTF bar using parts from the original Milab clips)

from the back ORTF on the above bar- you can see the clips around the mics.

sooooooo the paper clips slide into the grommet on the capsule and in the slot on the end of the 45° angle piece- it keeps the mics snug and secure straight in, at exactly 45° from center also 90° from each other

awwww - you can make yourself one, it wasn't terribly difficult.
If I actually had a shop with "real" tools it woulda been a heck of a lot easier    ;D
