Topic: I just fried my PS-2 :(

I just ran the wrong cable (polarity) in between my walmart battery and Denecke PS-2 this evening.  Two audible pops and a whiff of smoke later and it seems I've got a pretty blue paper-weight.  I opened her up and it looks like Q1 and Q3 were what popped...they've actually split open...damned if I know what other damage may have been done.

I know a few other people have had similar accidents.  Is there any point trying to salvage it?  If so, does anyone have any pointers on where I should start?

without seeing the unit itself, it sounds like you blew a couple of capacitors. If you can match up the parts (try mouser.com), replacing them is pretty easy.

woot! all fixed. that was much easier than expected. just replaced a couple of resistors and all was well.

Now how hard would it have been for them to include a diode to eliminate any chance of this?

Yeah, this seems to be a pretty common problem.  What is that, like a .02$ part?
