Looking for alternatives to live show tagger?
« on: July 05, 2013, 02:45:25 PM »
Got a new laptop, installed newest version of foobar and live show tagger and it doesn't work?  Bummed because I've loved this program so long...but no go.  It points to the text file but everything is blank in the fields.  I need another tagging option.  Ideas?

Here's the text file..It's not wrong?

I just manually put the track name at the end of my files. I could never get foo bar to work properly!

Well it always worked for me!  It works when I drag my files off laptop and onto desktop.  I just can't figure it out.  Maybe it's Windows 8?  My desktop has Vista...

I use TagScanner.  Never tried Foobar, but this one works pretty well.

I like making batch files and using metaflac.exe to tag my FLAC files from the command line.

I've been using live tagger lately just fine but my info file format us slightly different. Don't know if it matters but name the file bandYYYY-MM-DD.txt

Content:

Band name
venue
City, state
Date

01 song1
02 song2
03 song3

If I get time at the computer I'll see if your format works for me.

Mark, maybe you have to use 0s in the first nine songs/files instead of just 1,2,3. Try 01,02,03

Yes, that ^^^

The program is finicky with numbers.  If the band's name has a number in it, you must separate the band name from the date with an underscore ("_").   ie, Old97s2013-03-15 won't work, but Old97s_2013-03-15 will work.  Also, it has problems with song titles including numbers.
Also, the periods in the song track numbers might be a problem.  But yeah, definitely need 01, 02, 03, etc.

My text files look like the OP's. No issues here.

I'm using v1.1.11 on Windows 7.

Thinking about installing the beta of Windows 8.1 in a virtual box soon. Maybe I'll try Foobar with the Live Show Tagger in there to see if I can replicate the Ops problem.

Possibilities I can think of off the top of my head:

1. User error. Maybe installed incorrectly. If I recall correctly you unzip the component and place it in the components folder in the foobar program folder.
2. Glitch in the matrix. Maybe uninstall everything (make sure the folders are completely removed from the Programs folder) and re-install everything.
3. Incorrectly named file names. I use: band1999-12-31t01, band1999-12-31t02, etc.

Sometimes Live Show Tagger doesn't work correctly if the metadata on the files are missing the track numbers.  When that happens, I have to (1) manually add the track numbers using Properties, or (2) use the script function to populate the track numbers (Tagging, Manage Scripts).  Gordon taught me #2 a while back.

I use mp3tag for all my FLAC files and it works great.  Pretty simple tool also.
