Anyone use this to test their cables

kcmule:
I've used this one.

heathen:
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but does the Behringer CT100 work with cables that have different connectors (for example, XLR to RCA)?  I couldn't find a definitive answer in the Behringer documentation or reviews I found online.

Yes, you can use any combination of connectors plugged into any in and out. (well, I've never used the midi ports, so I'm don't know about that...)

Gutbucket:
And in addition to fault/intermittency detection, you can use the indicator lights to help determine how the cable is wired- in your example of balanced XLR to unbalanced RCA (3 conductors > 2 conductors) you can determine if pin 3 is open or bridged to ground (pin 1).

Like d3, I've never tried the midi ports.

While you're bumping a stale one, I'll throw in notes for the Swizz tester by EbTech. I think the Pyle and Behringer might be copies of this Made In USA box.

And the Whirlwind Q-Box, now on version 3, the mini plug headphone version.

--- Quote ---The Qbox is the all-in-one audio line tester ideal for applications such as live sound, maintenance, installation work - anywhere audio runs down a cable. The Qbox includes a microphone, a speaker, a test tone generator, outputs for standard headphones, a 1/4" jack for line-in or a 2k Ohm (telephone) earpiece out. A handy clip attaches the Qbox to your belt or equipment rack.

Simply generate into or listen to audio at any point in your system from the mics to the power amps to quickly confirm which sections are working and which ones aren't. The Qbox can quick-check dynamic mics and cables without firing up the entire system. Use the built in mic or tone generator at three different levels for activating a signal path or identifying a specific cable in a pile of cable ends. Powered by a single standard 9V alkaline battery and housed in rugged ABS, the Qbox is light yet able to withstand the wear and tear of fieldwork.
