170mAH vs. 200mAH. for 9v batts?
« on: July 12, 2004, 06:05:15 AM »
Is there enough difference to warrant picking up these:

http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1074

plus a charger,

instead of these:

 ??? ???

I'm no electrical engineer, but it doesn't seem like 30mAH is a lot more juice.

powering a ps-2 and an ad-20 in stealth situations.  What would you suggest for 9v block batteries then?

Energizer Lithium 9v. you can find them on Ebay for a very reasonable price.

as a reference, Duracell 9v (i've read that they are around 550mah) lasts only about 4.5hrs. for my pre.  i'm getting almost 3 times that amount with the Energizer lithiums.

no. one time usage.  for stealth taping, i always run the lithium 9v.

Q: Dimensions of 9.6 Volts 170 mAH NiMH?
« Reply #7 on: October 28, 2004, 05:41:09 PM »

Anyone here use the 9.6 Volts 170 mAh NiMH rechargeables from PowerEx/ MAHA?

I wonder about it's dimensions. Compared to other 9 Volts batteries does it stay right on the average so to speak or are they strecthing the tolerance specs to the hilt so as to pack as much energy into it as possible?

I have a really tight space, after trimming it barely accepts the std. 9 Volts LithiumIon and now I wonder if the PowerEx would fit.  And if it is of any quality ....

Thanx!

john;

they sucked as in they were poor.

i have iPower 9v and the physical size wasn't an issue.

I used a pair with my sax once and the low batt indicator came on after 45 minutes. That's why I only used them once.

FWIW, I've used 9v rechargables a couple times - with my SX-M2/LS2 and...something else, I forget.  And yeah, they suck.  Suck = crap run-time.  The capacity just isn't there yet.

Thanks for the replies.

The sx-m2 draws down the 170 mAh NiMH unreasonably fast? The sx-m2 draws as much as 80 mA.  Less than an hour run time sounds indeed like this battery really struggles at higher discharge rates.

I plan to power just a single no-nonsense gain stage where I want more than 9 volts across the amplifer. 170 mAh is plenty in this application. My concerns are mostly how fast this particular high-capacity battery "ages", how fast it self discharges and how it stands up to
use and abuse.

Seeing as I have the mAh under control I guess I'll just have to try.
