So I was recording NMAS Monday. Luck has it I was the only one recording. I get home and to my dismay the tape has got DAT noise from about 19:00 to 29:00.
It was a new tape in May. I did record over something crappy I recorded in June. At 19:00 there is an I.D. track that I did not make and it reverts back to the original recording. about 5 seconds later it goes back to the Allstar but there is bad noise for another 10 minutes. After that the tape is great. The D8 was new in Jan. 99. I only use it in the field and never rewind, FF ect. I recorded about 50 shows this past summer with no problems. I'm wondering how long it takes for this machine to wear out and should I have not recorded with a used tape.

I use used tapes in my M1 all the time.
I guess I have been lucky, I better order some new tapes soon, because I have been taping over shitty tapes the last show or two, and would hate to have the same problem.

Yeah, using fresh tape is always more exspensive but also more reliable.
