Title: Question on Standalone
Post by: mde420 on August 28, 2003, 10:35:49 AM
Hey kids, I think my recordable drive on my Onkyo DX-RD511 is getting a bit dirty.  Out of 50 pack of CDR's, I'm getting either an OPC Error or not even acknowledge the disc is in there about every other disc.  Now, it could be media(which I think it is) but that many discs out of 50 pack?  The manual doesn't say anything about cleaning the head & laser.  I've heard that using the same kind of disc cleaner for a standard CD player is not cool to use in a burner.  Anyone got any suggestions, or is this just urband legend?

Okay, the answer is NO, according to Onkyo.  Thanks for the folks who helped here.  Does any one know where I can get the CDR head cleaner with the film NOT the brushes.  I'm looking all over the place and no one carries these puppies in stock.  Anyone?

The burner sides of both of my Philips standalones are fine, but the player sides just dog my cats! Their inability to play correctly ruins between 0/4 and 3/4 CD-Rs I try to copy on...

I wish I could help here! i have been dogged by one of my decks lately, and the brush style cleaner doesn't / hasn't helped.

If you find these other cleaners, please post a link.

Good luck!

same problem, I'm about to chuck mine cuz the burner side is fucked

yea, but CDRs make a difference, i went had a 100 spindle of no name cheap ones, and probably 30-40 didn't burn, they'd start, then not finish...  bummer, so i went back to only sonys. good luck.
