can I connect speakers and amplifiers like this?
« on: November 16, 2009, 05:34:29 PM »
Hi!

I got 2 Hifi-amplifiers and 4 speakers and wounder if its possible to connect the like this:

Quote
Alternative 1
mp3player -- [3.5mmJack OUT -> RCA-IN] --> amplifier1 --> speakerpair1
amplifier1 -- [RCA-UT -> RCA-IN] --> amplifier2 --> speakerpair1
Quote
Alternative 2
sold my own cable and connect:
3.5mmJack --> rca1, rca2, rca3, rca4 (rca1,2 to speakerpair1 and rca3,4 to speakerpair2
The problem with alternative 1 is that it would be both amplifiers on the same speaker (speaker2) cause i cant adjust the volume out seperately.

cause of this Im thinking of alternative 2
the solding should be like this no?
3.5mmJack -> 4x RCA:
Quote
3.5mmJack tip+ -> rca1 centerpin+ och rca2 centerpin+
3.5mmJack ring- ->  rca1, 2, 3, 4 outer ring-

that must be correct?
thanks!!

The 1/8th plug has 3 connections- tip (left), ring (right), and sleeve (ground).  Splitting the signal passively is fine, I guess, but not ideal.  But in order to do this effectively, just make a 1/8" > RCA cable, then jumper two more RCA jacks from the original RCA  jacks.  Plug both of them into each amps input and you're set.

Like this, but with rca jacks.

Your pin assignments above are correct now.  Now you just have to make a cable that is soild.   :)
