Topic: CD burner issues

Hi, this is Bob, of the infamous Melanie/Bob combo, we have a stand alone HB CD burner that has begun refusing to play CD's that were burned on it.It will play commercial CD's,but comes up with a "check disc" when a cdr that has been finalized or not is inserted. I cleaned the lens with methyl alcohol and it played one disc I burned but with minor glitches and would not repeat that after reassembly.Our ancient Sony car deck did this and gradually would not play commercial discs either. Laser going? I hate to send it in as we had to replace the whole board a few years ago.Maybe beam alighnment?Anyone with similer issues and poss. insights let us know.               thanks
