Audix Micro series or SMT MICRO shock Diameter?
« on: November 21, 2013, 02:57:40 AM »
Hey there
I am wondering if anyone out there that has one of the micro series from Audix the M1280B or another can tell me the diameter in mm of this mico r series?

I see from the specs the diaphragm is 12mm i how much larger is the body? is it 15mm?

I am looking at the http://www.audixusa.com/docs_12/units/SMT_MICRO.shtml  SMT MICRO

for a project  and wondering  if will work?

Thanks for the info!

I've got one set each of M1280 and M1290, but they are not the newer "B" series. I can get you a measurement when I get home this evening, but since mine are older I can't guarantee they'll be the same size as the ones you're looking at.

FWIW the M1280 and M1290 are both the same diameter.

SMT Micro and MC Swivel Shockmount adapters work with the Micro Series Audix Mic's  I use them with the 1255's and 1280's.  You get much more length on the body of the 1280's than the 1255's so it should not pose any problems.  I prefer the MC Swivel over the SMT Micro, as it will allow for better adjustment if necessary.

BTW, mccordo, have the 1290's been discontinued?  I have not seen them in quite some time.  Also TY for the New Mastersounds on the kickdown.

No problem, 404. I believe the 1290s are discontinued, but I got my set in the YS so I'm not 100% certain. From what I've gathered, the 1280s came after the 1290s despite the numbering sequence.

to clarify I don't have and don't plan to own any Audix micros, even know they are an Oregon based company.

I Am simply trying to find out the diameter of the SMT Micro Shock mount or the mics them selves, which would give the same answer.

I want to sue a small 15mm shock mount for another project.

I simply need the overall diameter of the micro series

thanx

Based on my M1280HC and M1290C, the diameter of both the body and cap is 12mm. Mine are older, so there is a chance the body may be slightly larger in the new series (like the 15mm you referenced).

^^^^ Hey thanks
I am specifically wondering because after a search of spec's from Audix and a number of other places that cite specs, NO-where do they state the overall mic diameter or shock mount diameter.
Only spec I can find is 12mm capsule diaphragm.

Hi Ian,

Here's a pic of the inner diameter measurement.  I use these mounts with 1/2 inch mics and they work well.

I found an adaptor that was exactly 15mm in diameter and tried it out (second pic).  The inner rubber will stretch enough to fit the adaptor but there is very little space between the inner rubber ring and the outer metal support ring.  This would greatly decrease the shock absorbing capabilities of this mount IMHO but it fits.

Very nice thank you, for your efforts and the excellent photos!
That is sort of what I thought.

I'll move on with my ideas and  work a different angle.

totally appreciate your extra mile effort!
