Do you know if the voltage requirement that EW's need is too much for the UA5?

I did some searching on this in the past- there are reports on the annals of TS.com about people having problems with this setup... but there are also many reports of people having no problems whatsoever.

I'd do a search in the archives and try to read some of the messages from people that reported having problems.  My personal choice was to pass on the Earthworks because of the mere possibility that it would fry the pre.  But, that's my choice.

Tickets are dead to me.  Except the ones I have, don't have, and lost.  Not to mention the ones you have, don't have, and lost.   And the ones that other dude has, doesn't have, and lost.  Let me know if you need some tickets, I'm happy to oblige.

It's not the pre that it'd fry, just the phantom power supply.
Out of the game … for now?

Agreed, BT's tapes are very nice.  However, I am almost certain that the ua-5 fried at one point.  You should probably ask her though!

The SR-77, and QTC-1 mics require 10 mA of power, with the amount of power required by the UA-5 (450 mA), I'd be surprised if it didn't supply enough juice.

I've run both the SR-77's and QTC-1 mics through a variety of gear (including straight out of the DA-P1) and never had any issues.

Speculation from Doug, but given his knowledge of the workings of the UA5, I'd be a bit concerned.

Couldn't you avoid this issue by running earthworks > ps2 > ua5 and powering the ps2 off of the same external battery as the ua5?
