meter calibration help
« on: November 02, 2004, 07:44:48 PM »
I read through all the posts on the SVU-2.  I just got it in the mail today, but how do I configure this?  I recorded a signal it hit +3 bd on the light, then brought it inot sound forge, and sf reads it as +3 bd.  So am I gold.  The UA-5 didn't clip at all.  If someone could help, and walk me thorugh a step by step I would forever be in debt.

Here's how I did mine.  Created 10-15 mins of a middle c tone in SF and burned that to a cd.  Threw that in the home stereo.  Set up my mics directly in front of the speakers..almost touching.  Turned down one channel all the way.  Turned up the othe channel until the peak light on the UA-5(-3db) just barely began flickering.  I then calibrated the same channel on the SVU-1 to where the first red light was also about half way on.  So I know that hitting the first red light on the SVU-1 is fine but both would be very close, if not, clipping.

You of course can decide for your self what lights on the SVU-1 you want to corelate to the UA-5 light.  Then switch up an do the same procedre for the opposite channel.

The UA-5 light comes on at -3db.  That's all you need to know.
