Topic: Apogee Mini-me, Lunatec V3, Mytek

 I would like your thoughts about this posible candidates as portable devices.
 I know many of you have made comparisons between them.
 How about the Mini-me pre , and A/D compared to the V3?
 I have in mind the posibility of a Mytek with a preamp, like DAV BG1.
 I have heared very good things about the DAV. But regarding to the Mytek converters, the 96k version seems easily to find second hand that 192khz. I have read that the 192k version sounds better at any sampler rate, and is allows DC power. HAve you noticed that diference between the two versions?
 I would like to hear your thoughts about all there devices, and if posible , hear comparisons  of them if they are.

I had a Mini-Me for a while. The A/D is top notch. The pre-amp section ultimately disapointed me. There was a bloat to the low end I didn't like with my AKG C-480's.

I run a set of MBHO's with my minime and I love the sound of this combo.

  Male vocal, acoustic guitar, maybe some latin percussion. Also a low Z input for my electric guitar. (would have to get one if not choose the Mini me)

sounds like you need a channel strip, to cover all those areas.

  Channel strips means multiple preamps, isn´t?  Any suggestion for a portable setup?   I haven´t see nothing that way.

  I don´t think I´ll win anything with processing before go to disk. Is enough with a good preamp+AD.   For EQ and compr have one UAD1, with very good plugins to it.

if you like the sound of your mics, the V3 is the way to go.  its so clean and transparent..that is what you'll get. 100% microphone characteristics.

the Mme, while a quality piece, will sound too FAT w/those large diaphragm mics, imo.

the Mytek is supposed to be great, but i've not used one.

What are you running as your recorder? If its a 722 or 744t... don't bother with any of it. After running my first 3 shows with the V2>722.. I'm simply blown away at the A>D n those things. I was initialy going to go V3>722 but all my old taper friends that didn't take a vacation like I did (including a few on this board) told me that the A>D in the 722 was better than the V3. No doubt they are right. I can't believe the tapes I pulled of Panic from some less than desireable locations... honestly... If you aren't using a SD... the V3 is a known entity. We pretty much all know it makes good tapes. THe Mytek, while interesting as hell has a lot less evidence to support it and requires a pre in front. If you are doing something like V2>Mytec>MT or the like why not just save up a bit more and go V2>722. You'll like it.. I ggarrruueentteee!!!

 I use a laptop, a Magma chassis with a Scope Home card. I carry all in a case. The 722 recorder is not for my use. The Scope home is a dsp based soundcard with sampler, synths,.. and use the laptop as an DAW. So the preamp+AD is part of the DAW here.

i disagree i think 414's sound great with a minime and great with a v3.. ive run both a bunch of times
i personally prefer the minime..
you cant go wrong either way in my opinion

i've owned all 3, and found the mytek to be the most transparent.  keep in mind the mytek stereo192 is *only* a 24 bit recorder, though.  but it rocks

I ran the 414s w/a v3 a bunch, love it.  a little to round n' the bottom (aka, junk in the trunk) w/the Mme for my tastes...
but that is why we all have different gear for different ears.
