I see this quite a bit in peoples rigs.  I'm not exatly sure exactly what it does.  I have read up on it a little bit but would like to hear what the board has to say

It's an ADC.  Stock, it provides a significantly better ADC than the D7/D8.  Not a huge improvement over the M1/D100 ADC, IMO, but the Oade modSBM-1 does offer significant improvements over the M1/D100 ADC.
