Adding FLAC files to a LMA upload???
« on: November 01, 2008, 11:38:26 AM »
so, ive switched to a new ftp server (fireftp).  ive made a few mistakes as im learning.

on this one, i upped this show.  for some reason the upload died midstream. i tried to up the rest, and didnt do it properly.  so i have half a show uploaded.  so, how do i add flacs to an existing, already-derived LMA page?

heres the link:

If I recall correctly, you need to check the item back out by going to www.archive.org/checkout/sdt2008-10-01.sbd.flac16.  Then you can log in via FTP and make sure everything is there that is supposed to be there.  Then when you're finished, go to the same address but replace "checkout" with "checkin" to make the item visible again.

I think what you need to do is click on 'edit item' on the left in the 'resources' section, and then go to 'item manager' link, then click 'checkout--edit item's files' and then you can go to the ftp address and add the flac files that weren't added the first time, and you should delete every derived file as well.  So basically you delete everything except for the existing flac files and the xml files (that you can't delete anyway) and your txt/md5 files.  Then add the missing flac files.  Then 'checkin' and go back to 'item manager' and select 'derive' on that page.  I think that should work!

i think this is the winner!  im upping the files, it appears into the proper folder.  thanks for your help, everything should be gravy from here...+T

One other comment.  If you overwrite any existing flac file with a new version, and the md5sum is different, it will result is "checksum mismatch" error.  Best thing is to delete the old file and upload a new file as xxx2008-xx-xxd1t01_fixed.flac so it has a different filename.

mattmiller and su6oxone are both right - the /checkout/ is the shortcut way of doing it if you just want to enter a URL, while su6oxone's way is how to do it via the clickety clickety.

It seems you've figured it out, but for for future reference when folks look at this thread - you'll need to make sure the derive task reruns in order to create mp3's from your new FLACs. Otherwise they'll just sit there underived...
Unofficial Blues Traveler archivist - glad to work on any BT or related recordings
archive.org admin - happy to upload tracked material to the LMA
