AD20 > D8 ?
« on: April 03, 2004, 04:28:39 AM »
Hello,

I recently made a recording of a "loud" rock concert using this setup :
 Oktava mk012 > ps2 > ad20 > D8

I used a Sony Rkda10p cable (rca - 7pin) between the ad20 and the D8.

I had the levels of the ad20 set to 0. Despite this, one of the channel of the recorder was near to overload !
Unfortunately, you can't modify the levels of the D8 when you are using the digital I/O port...

So my question is :
does an attenuator cable (mini - RCA ) exist ?
or what kind of solution should I use to avoid this problem ?

Thanks.

use shurE attenuators beteen the ps-2 and the ad-20!

Not sure where to get them, maybe someone less drunk can chime in

ok thanks for your answer.
The Shure attenuators seem to be quite expensive (2x $45   :P  )
Is there any other solution that I can consider ?

I bought the AD20 from SP and it did not come with any cable... however, it seems that some AD20 come with a (grey) attenuator cable
So, getting this cable may be less expensive (?)

the reason why you're having a problem is because the AD-20 provides a minimum gain of 17dB.   I'd also recommend getting a set of attenuators.  Actually, I have a pair of Shure A15A5 attenuators that I could let go.  I bought them from someone on this site, back when I was using my AD-20.  However, I haven't used them in a many months, not since getting my V3.  shoot me an email if you're interested.

I ran an AD-20 for a while and had the levels set at Zero many many times,  and never got a clip that could be heard during playback.

It kind of made it easy for taping bands like Gov't Mule,
set levels at Zero, hit Record, hope for the best.
