Reversing Polarity for R-4 Pro
« on: January 24, 2007, 04:19:56 PM »
Apparently, both the R-4 and R-4 Pro share the same reverse polarity issue, with pin negative and sleeve positive.  What do people do to reverse polarity using common Wally batteries or similar lithium ions.  Do I have to hack the cable, or can this be done with some sort of Rat Shack plug?

If you have an adaptaplug, you can turn it around.  Check polarity with a voltmeter.

If you've got a fixed adapter, yes, just hack the cable.

One trick I do is put a bit of red shrinkwrap on the plug if it's polarity if reversed.  I have a few wallwarts that were either reversed already, or hacked by me.  So I "flag" them with a red band around the plug to indicate they are for UA5, R4, etc.

Look around somewhere here (TS) for what tips you need for the adaptaplug before you head off to ratshack. It's the exact same setup you use for a UA5, so look for posts that discuss UA5 powering with DVD batteries. This is what I use BTW, works like a charm.
