Title: Very thin mic cable similar to Belden 1804?
Post by: carlbeck on February 05, 2016, 04:34:59 PM
I have to build a set of extension mic cables & want something as thin as Belden 1804 so I can snake a pair together. 1804 is hard to get in small lengths so I an hoping to find something similar that is readily available. I do need all four wires since I am wiring mini XLR 4 pins, fwiw they are for my MBHO's......

I faced the same problem a few years ago when I wanted to make myself a pair of extension cables for the MBHO actives. I ended up using Mogami W2697 cable. The Mogami is only two wires, so I just used two cables in parallel. It's wasn't pretty, but worked really well. ;)

Other than that, Canare's "star quad" cables should work. They're thicker than the Belden, but if that's not a problem, they should do the job.

Thanks for the reply, I'm looking at Canare as well, looks a little thicker than I'd like but may have to do if I can't find what I want.

The audio technical mini star quad is great stuff, nearly same profile as the 1804 just copper, great flexibility and durability, you have to call AT parts and they will sell it to you, last time I inquired on price it was like .35 a foot

Also just in case you weren't aware... on the MBHO's you have to ground the body of the mini xlr as well so your ground from the mini star soldered to that little metal wire crimp on the mini xlr

Yep, thank you, I noticed that which is why looking for star quad made the most sense to me. I found something that is a little larger than the 1804 from a supplier mentioned here for about .35 cent's a foot so I ordered some. Next time I'll grab the AT stuff though.
