Title: BOOKS THREAD - Taper- related books and other fun stuff
Post by: BobW on August 24, 2004, 12:16:35 AM
At Bri's suggestion, we're starting a thread listing books that have been helpful to tapers.

If you have a text, manual, or a tutorial that you've found helpful in making a good recording, please share it !

N.B.  - This is a different sort of thread than "Team Books" in the Teams Section.
This thread is all about recording, mics, software, and other gear.

Team Books is where to find a good, relaxing read.

I found this book to be pretty useful for those who are using Sound Forge.  It gives a great detailed explaination on using the regions menu to track your recording, as well as tips for normalizing using both peak and RMS normalization in Sound Forge.

The Author, Scott Garrigus, is also active in the SoundForge users email group on Yahoo.

The Audio Dictionary
Glenn D. White
1987  University Of Washington Press
1991 2nd Edition

While it might be rather dated regarding some of the digital aspects of taping, as far as the fundamental stuff, it's all there.

I consider it my personal translator when folks start speaking "engineer".  ;)

If you're looking for a basic text book type book on the physics of sound and how it applies to the live music world, I'd recommend the Yamaha SOund Reinforcement Handbook by Gary Davis and Ralph Jones.

It's helped me.
