Title: AC adapter question
Post by: AdamZ on August 24, 2006, 06:37:18 PM
I know it's not remote power but,
I have a Ac charger for an IRiver whose prongs look like a stun gun. It says :
Input: 100-240V~50/60Hz 350mA
Output: 5V ---2A

The adapter it came with fits over the the prongs and has a normal plug end that will fit my US power receptacle. The adapter says 15A 250V on the end near the US style plug.

Can I safely use this beast to charge the IRiver without cooking the battery? Im leary about the adapter saying 15A 250V when my house is 120V.
Thanks,
AdamZ

Adam:

many ac adaptors these days are designed to operate on both 120v and 240v current.  The specs you listed above seem to indicate that your adaptor does this too.

However, since I'm simply speculating, your best bet is to use a volt meter (can be picked up cheaply/borrowed from radioshack, etc.) to confirm that the adaptor's outputting 5v when connected to a 120v powersource.

great idea! I have one of those and just read the book how to use it the other day.
I just tried it and it works fine, thanks
