Does Size Matter?

Now get your mind out of the gutter. I’m talking about the cable size between male and female XLR.
I made a cable for my LSD2 out of some 20 AWG silver Teflon cable (M27500-20SP5S23). I use a PS2 to supply the phantom power. A 9V battery ran around 2 hours with the cable that came with the mic. With the new cable the low battery light is comming on at 80 minutes.
Does a bigger cable take more juice to supply the phantom power to the mic? Does the size of the cable change the sound?

I've never thought about this before... Logic would have that a cable with a higher amount of resistance would require more power... larger cable does not necessarily mean more resistance, but it could.

The resistance should be negligible and not noticeably affect battery draw.
Have you verified there is no grounding issues with the new cable?

I split one of the 5 cables and the shield for grounding. Both seem to be fine.
